Which brand of W126 brake pads?

Hey guys,

I have to do my brake pads soon (light has been flickering for the past 200 ish miles) and I am completely lost as to which brand of pad I should invest in. I know I have ATE calipers, and am aware of the Bendix/ATE switch hitting for the OEM equipment, but which brand of pads should I get? I don't mind brake dust too much as my wheels are SO easy to clean (imagine an 80's hot wheels car), all I care about is noise and stopping power. The intention is to replace my rotors with the next set of pads, so for future reference as well, what brand of rotor should I look out for?

Thanks,

Carlen

Any major brand semi-metallic or organic pad will work great for a daily driver. Just be sure to use plenty of anti-squeal paste on the back of the pads. Brake dust is all but guaranteed unless you go to a full ceramic pad.

FYI: PBR Deluxe -- a terrific pad -- comes with a pad attached to the back of it so, with those, there is no need to use messy paste/goop.

When I inquired here about a year ago, I think the majority vote was for Textar which, for your car, can be had for $77.00. But when I priced the Textars for my E420, they were about the same price the dealer wanted for MB factory pads, so I went with the factory pads. You should call your dealer just to check on the price of factory pads. It may surprise you. Given roughly equivalent pricing, I would go for factory parts any day. That includes rotors.

See if Akebono (ceramic) makes a set now for the W126...you'll be happy with them I'm sure.
