W210 Suspension Ka-chunk?

1998 E300, When I hit bumps at slow speed I hear a Ka-thunk from the front. I think more from the right front. I pulled the right front wheel to see if I could identify anything as being loose but all seems OK. Might it be a shock mount or shock? What should I look for an how? Car has 270k but I've only had it for 90k so I don't know what PO did.

What part of the country are you in. There is a rust failure with the spring perch that is not uncommon where salt is used on the roads. Not a pretty site when it fails completely.

to amplify that, it's not at all pretty when it's almost ready to have your spring fall off.
Get the car on a lift and do a walk-under. Look at the metal that retains the top of the spring. You don't want to see any rust there.

Also, check the front end components for wiggle and spin the tires by hand looking to see if they are out-of-round due to rim damage.

VA, but it is not the spring perch. I know to look for that and caught the crack in the RF before failure. It wasn't a rust failure.

I lifted the car and pulled on the wheel in multiple axis. I don't see a problem. It is due for inspection soon maybe the garage will figure it out and I have to beleive I need shocks anyway. It looks like the default shock is the Bilstein HD since the Comfort doesn't appear to be available for my car. It looks like all the mounting hardware comes with the shocks so if it is a mountng issue that should fix it.

Any other ideas?

X2. Both the sway bar links and busings between the sway bar proper and chassis. If its the latter, get the solid bushing (A140 part number), not the split bushing (A210 part number)---more difficult to install but lasts longer. Mark
