New Viscous Fan Clutch roaring at speed
I read 8 pages of VFC posts but still need to know something.
I just replaced a non working clutch with a new Behr and it wont disengage at speed. The bearing is okay. Sometimes it disengages but if I deaccelerate briefly and speed up again it comes back in and stays roaring - for miles at 100 plus kph. I didn't know it had to be stored upright and it was horizontal on my shelf for about two months before I got around to putting it in. Did this wreck the thing? Is this why it locks on? I still want to know what happens to it when not stored vertical. And why, if it's a clutch it defaults locked instead of loose. The rest of the cooling system is spot on with an as new radiator.

FWIW I had the clutch out of my 300E for 6 months when repairing a sheared crank key. It sat Horizontal in the boot for this time. It's still fine.

Thanks - that is actually helpful. I suspect that the strip and pin are not set correctly. Interesting though that it seems okay at night time.
