I guess this is normal?

Sorry guys to start a new thread for just a quick answer but this is really bugging me :o

Just went to crank the engine by hand (plugs removed of course) as it's been forced to sit for ages & I just filled auto trans (4.5L & it's full , I realise torque converter takes a bit but still?). Anyway, when I crank it clockwise, no noise, easily spins. When I crank it anti-clockwise, a knocking noise from piston I think hitting cylinder walls? Spins just as easy though.....

Is this due to engine operating in a clockwise direction? Sorry but I have never had engine running to check myself since it replaced the ruined one so long ago so, could someone put me in the know pls :)

what you're hearing is probably the timing chain tensioner knocking. don't do that again. you can slip the chain a tooth or 2. always with a timing chain or belt, rotate in the running direction. good luck, chuck.

doh.....thanks, I think :o well I've just created more pita work for myself. I'll have to check the timing position now before I start it up & run it as I didn't just turn it a few times. As I said, I wasn't aware of the right direction as I've never had the engine running
