Highest mileage car i've ever seen would be yesterday.

1996 Linclon Towncar limo. 693,000 miles on the digital odometer.. impressive looking, wish I had my digital camera with me, but its probably on its 3rd engine.

It seems that Canada has a lower price for Mobile 1 but a higher price for dino oil. Or the difference between Mobile 1 and dino is not as big as in the US.

My local Wal-Mart (Big Rapids, MI) has Mobile 1 at $4.24 - $4.49 per quart. When the 5-qt special bottles come in, it is for $17.88.

Most dino oils (Castrol, Vavoline, Pennzoil, Quaker State, Havoline, etc) are from $1.25 - $1.50 per quart. When the special 5-qt or 6 qt bottles come in, they are about $1 per qt. I can always get for that price. For example, this week, K-Mart has the Havoline for $0.98 per qt.

BlackMercedes,

I am in Ontario, I could hardly believe the price of dino oil in Edmonton is that outrageous.

I have been using Mobil-1 5W30 for a long time, here in Ottawa, Mobil-1 5W30 is 4 times expensive than those dinos. 4 Litre container costs $26 Cnd in CanadianTire, and normal dinos cost no more than $7 per 4 litres, so the price here is about the same as that in the US.

It's approx. 800 miles from Golden, Colorado to San Antonio, Texas. How do I know? I rode it in one day about 25 yrs. ago on a 1975 Kawasaki 900 Z-1B - very fast bike.

I find 800 miles a day, 4 times a week for nearly 7 yrs. delivering newspapers a bit hard to swallow.

When I met my wife years ago, she was driving a 1980 Dodge Diplomat. The car's oil was changed every 4,000 miles by a repair shop down the street from where she worked. I always checked to see that the fluid and filter were fresh. Penn-Zoil was used. At 80,000, I decided to change the valve cover gaskets. What I saw underneath the valve covers left me in shock. The rockers were covered with what looked like wet sand? I've heard similar stories from others who "used" to use Penn-Zoil.

1,000,000 miles in a Chevy using Penn-Zoil? Huh???

mmmmm......

now that's 800 miles a day @ 34.5 cents per mile deduction...

Based on the 142,000 miles per year theory......

His deduction was $48,990.00 PER YEAR!!!

I'll take a CL55 and drive twice as fast...

Okay. Lemme think about this. Alberta has MORE oil than Saudia Arabia. MORE! And our dino-in-a-bottle prices are MORE than in Ontario, home of some car plants and tobacco farms, but little or no OIL? I bought a litre of Quaker State for the 'ol Mazda the other day, and it was $2.79.

$26 for 4L of Mobil 1 is the "regular price" that I see, but our Wal-Mart has it about three or four times a year in 5L bottles for $19.99. when they do, I usually buy four or five bottles. $100 for 25L of Mobil 1 is CHEAP. (And we have no provincial sales tax...)

The Wal-Marts here sometimes have Mobil 1 in the 5 quart jugs for $18, which would make it $3.60 per quart. When they don't have that special and it is in the one quart bottles it is $4.50 per quart.

Wal-Mart also has their own Supertech oil $4 for 5 quarts. They also have Castrol for just under $8 for 5 quarts.

Hey, you can get MB-sized oil filters (Supertech brand) at Wal-Mart for a buck ninety five! At least for my 124.... Can't beat that!

Remember when...

remember when Mobil 1 used to advertise that you can run it 25,000 miles? I do. Boy that didn't last long. I read somewhere once that you could probably run it 25,000 miles and still be ok as long as you changed the filter and looked to see you we not burning oil. I dont think I want to try. What's up with all you Wal-Mart shoppers? I though that only guys named Zeek and Buba shop at wal-mart, and drive up in there old Chevy trucks? Hu, well that's what I get for steriotyping

Mateo,

That is the reason why I'm having a hard time finding a well maintained car. Every car I've found so far has incomplete records, and FRAM filters and all kinds of great stuff. I even saw bungy cords under the hood of one car!

I may not have a 2002 Benz, but one thing is for sure, I never go cheap on lubricants and filters. Always Lubro Moly, K&N, etc and always on time. My battery failed, I bought an OEM. Any part I change must be oem or better. That's how I treat my cars anyway.

FWIW, in Omaha SuperTarget has sold Mobil 1 for $3.74 USD for the last several years -- cheaper than our Wal-Mart.

Carman850 -- I recently read on the Easley/Ritter list that MB has now decided that 5W-30 was no longer recommended for V-8 engines (though that's what I've got in my 400E right now, too.)
