Basic position of inlet/intake camshaft, M104
Could somebody confirm this: I read about m104 1992 300E on performance manual that when setting the timing chain, inlet camshaft needs to be rotated in opposite direction of engine rotation while cam adjuster needs to be rotated in the direction of engine rotation in order for the camshaft to be in the retarded position. Is technical information wrong or this is the correct set-up?

Dont worry , if youve set the cam position , or pinned the cam =ie hole above flat surface of head , then with the chain off you just rotate the outer gear(intake cam) to the right all the way till it stops, then install chain at that position=ie retarded positiion, , if your removing head after its been run ,or you have rotated the engine clockwise just put paint marks , when everthing is aligned , but dont rotated engine backwards or intake cam will not be aligned, always rotated clockwise till your marks always align per instructions, and if your chain is stretched or head milled its going to off a little
