Checking codes on 1992 400E????????

How exactly do you check the codes on a 1992 400E?

Go to the very bottom of this page and build the home brew tester.

I must be missing something I have a homemade code reader for the W124 E320's but the pin connections on the 400E are alot smaller and my bananna plugs won't even start to fit in the holes. The part number from radio shack are the same for my code reader on the e320's and the attachment you sent me on the W140 chassis. I know on the E320's you only read codes on two of the pins. How do you do it on the 400E? Do you just read certain pins or all pins.

20 gauge solid wire, such as aluminum or copper picture hanging wire from the hardware store, is a good fit for the 38 pin sockets. With a flashlight you can see which of the 38 pins have a metal insert - most don't. It's basically 4, 6, 7, 8, 16, 17, 19 and 30 as I recall. Engine problems are on 4, 7, 17 and 19. By the way E320s have more the two pins, it's more like five I believe.

Had I known to use 20 gauge wire on mine, I would have done so. I ended up soldering three heavy duty paperclips to the leads. They fit perfectly in the canon plug.

Just read the codes like you guys said needed to be done.....

Pin 4- 4
Pin 6- nothing
Pin 7- 2,5,11
Pin 8- 10,11,12,13
Pin 17- 5
Pin 19- nothing

What do these codes tell you as far as my running problem is concerned?
