the all time stupid move----HELP
 

I have a 2006 E 320 CDI---long story short it has the original battery . I was going to change it out with a new Optima red top and after placing the red top in the battery position found the positive cable was not long enough. Thinking I would wait and find a cable extender tomorrow I placed the old battery back in but did not connect it(big mistake). I closed the trunk lid but since it is electric and the battery is disconnected I can't open the lid--------I have read the manual and see no way to enter the trunk----------Is there a manual way to open the trunk? Help Help

You can open the hood? Is there a jumpstart terminal there? It may not work with no battery connected.

If your sure the positive cable is not touching ground , you can put voltage on alternator terminal , then have someone push trunk button on door

Could you use a 12V power source to a passenger compartment cigarette lighter outlet and then turn the ignition to the ACC or On position, in theory the current could flow from that socket and provide power to operate the truck unlocking mechanism?

Remove the emergency metal blade key that is located within the ignition key and place it in the trunk lock keyhole that is located next to the trunk release handle (squat down a bit - you'll see it above the license plate). Turn the key to the left approximately 45 degrees (+/-) and hold it in this position. While holding the key in this position, work the trunk release handle. Let us know if this works.

For illustration, go to the Practical Hints section of your owner's manual, and in that section is a subsection called "unlocking/locking in an emergency" On the online version of the 2006 E Class manual, (link below) it starts on page 426.

if metal key doesn't work (don't know why it wouldn't) see if your PSE pump is accessible in the cabin.

look for fitting labeled 'HECK'. remove hose connection CAREFULLY (heat slightly or remove T fitting).

take typical rubber baby snot syringe pump and puff air into the hose.

Rear Seat Trunk Access?
 

I'm sure you don't have a split fold down rear seat, or you would have crawled in and hooked up the battery by now (or looked for an emergency release handle on the trunk lid). I'm not familiar with yor model, but maybe someone who is could weigh in on the feasibility of removing the rear seat back.

Isnt there a place to put a key in the trunk?

If the positive cable is too short, doesn't it mean that the new battery has the wrong polarity?

It means it is not the correct battery for the application.
