Please Help!! 560SEL 722.350 Transmission Problem.

Got this 560 SEl about a week ago (with 722.350 Transmssion)

Problem.

1. Gear shift 2-3 at 2500RPM REGARDLESS of Bowden cable adjustment(tried Max and Min but Shift point still 2500RPM)

2. Doesn't go into 4, need to shift to N (from D) and back(at about 3000RPM) then tranny goes into 4

What could the problem? (Changed K1 spring kit, new ATF and Filter)

Could it be K2 Spring kit? If yes, where can I get K2 Spring kit?

Help appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried driving with the control pressure cable disconnected?

Thanks for reply.

Are you refering to the Bowden cable or the vacuum line that goes to the modulator?

mbdoc 09-07-2011 11:48 AM

Control pressure CABLE. It controls when the trans shifts.

Modulator controls how HARD the trans shifts.

OK...will disconnect the bowden cable tomorrow and go for a test drive.

Thanks for helping

This might seem like an obvious question - but - was it working properly before you fiddled with the k1 spring in the valve body?

I've not seen information like this in the 722.3 ATSG manual but here's information for the 722.1 which I think has the same relationships...

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...9&d=1313998650

As you can see k1 clutch is required for 4th gear on a 722.1 => I'm guessing it is the same for a 722.3

Disconnect the control pressure cable and car still shift 2500RPM

Are you saying that replacing the original K1(part number 126 270 44 77) kit(the old one had a broken spring) caused the high RPM shift(where the bowden cable no longer in control)?

Thanks.

No I'm not saying that.

I was asking if the transmission was shifting into 4th before you put in a new K1 shift kit.

(I guess not - but if it was, then changing the spring hasn't helped)

As you suggest in your first post the K2 clutch is also important for 4th.

I have got my hands on a different ATSG manual for the 722.3 - and I can see in there that the relationships shown in this manual are similar to the 722.1 =>

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1315505905

However, reading the wrong manual again - the 722.1 ATSG manual says not shifting into 4th lists governor pressure too low... this compares favourably with your shifting at 2500rpm problem in the trouble shooting section in this new manual I've got hold of...

...where it says up shifts in lower speed range gears only:-

1) Check cable
2) Check throttle stop
3) Check regulator pressure - if too high change the governor

Dear Army,

Thanks for all the help.

"3) Check regulator pressure - if too high change the governor"....is this the vacuum modulator mounted on the tranny with a small vacuum hose to the engine inlet manifold?

npk 09-10-2011 08:00 PM

Just to add, there was small seepage of ATF from the kickdown switch...I changed all the 3 pcs of O-rings to Viton...could there be an internal leak that cause the shift problems?

Thanks in advance.

No the regulator pressure is measured from one of the various measuring ports on the casing...

I'm sending you a PM.

Thanks for infor but would K1 or K2 kits affect the shift hardness, rather than the shift point which the car is suffering now?

After the change of k1, shift form 2 to 3 is nice but late(ie.high RPM, close to 2500rpm)
