VDO Relays for 220
Help! I am having a difficult time finding the VDO brand 6 and 8 prong relays for my 1973 220. can any one please help?? Thanks. Also does anyone know what the do? I am not getting power to my coil and the relays look a little fried so I am thinking that is the issue.

What part number?
Most likely they have been phased out of the MB parts program. |
Thanks for the repsone! the problem is I'm not 100% sure the numbers I am going to give you are the part number, as some of the numbering is gone.
The 6 prong relay box: 220 On side 5) Out 3600 RPM 4)ON 2000RPPM 5)HYST200 RPM 1)HYST150RPM 411.204/1/5 to the right is a missing numenr (possibly a serial #?) 8 Prong box: 220 410/203/1/10 Current (something missing) Contact I'm afraid the boxes may no longer be available, at that point I guess my only option is to find a donor car. |
You are talking about emission control boxes that simply control the timing advance curve, not needed at all!
|
Really? Thats kind of good in a way, kind of bad in another because that means I'm barking up the wrong tree. I thought for sure they were providing some kind of power to the ignition coil and that is why I wasnt getting power to come out of the coil (the coil is good i ran it in another MB to test). I guess that puts me back to the ignition siwtch. Thanks for your help Doctor. :)

The USA 220/8 W115 chassis, has an electronic ignition system.
Switched on/off by the points. |
You've no doubt consulted the MBUSA Classic Center in Irvine, CA already?
|
No, I have been afraid to contact MB-USA Classic Center. Judging by the prices on there Ebay store, I think I could afford a hub cap and that is about it.
|
Just to be clear! those boxes have NOTHING to do with the starting or running of the engine!
|
^ You were definately clear. I have abandoned my hunt for the relays (and saved some $!). One other quesiton, does the 4 prong silver boxed relay serve the same purpose? it is right beside the other two and the wiring comes form the same place. Thank you sir.
