Odometer Issue-1984 190E
I'm tackling the heater core replacement in another thread here. Pulled the instrument cluster, and found that the reason my odometer has stopped working is because the shaft that has the gear driving it off of the speedometer has physically moved the plastic gear away from the teeth it meshes on. I pushed the shaft gently back into place, and spun the speedometer for a moment. Odometer and trip meter are working again.
So, what holds the shaft in place? A 'C' clip, maybe? I'm not seeing it. The plastic gear is not slipping on the shaft. And, there's nothing laying there that could be the culprit, that I see. Any ideas? |
If I remember right my wifes 92 300D did the samething, I pushed it back where it is working again and put super glue on the end and all is good now. Just dont let the glue run down the shaft or it wont turn.

The shaft is slipping on the last gear. I think it is slightly crimped and pushed into the wheel. What I did was to remove the shaft, crimp it a little bit, add a 'tiny' drip of super glue at the tip and thread it back, then push the last wheel in.

Ahh, OK. I'll look into this. Thanks
