Well, I was wrong. It was good to get the older version of the PHPAds software out of the system and clean up other problems, but we still had a slowdown today. The good news is I know *exactly* where the problem lies. It's with a search query on the Peach Database. For some reason, the Pelican database (running on the same server with the same installation of MySQL) doesn't have the same problems (I ran the query on Peach - it took more than 180 seconds before I killed it - ran the same query on Pelican, it took 2 seconds). I've spent 10 years tweaking the Pelican database, so I will compare the two and figure out what the exact issue is...

EDIT: I just compared the two databases, and there are a lot of database indexes that I added to Pelican that are not in the Peach Catalog. I will add those tonight (have to bring down the site to do that)

Any idea what time or how long down?

I wouldn't want any members to suffer withdrawal symptoms for lack of a forum fix. :D

Already did it this afternoon when there weren't too many people on the forum. Took 20 min.

Regarding Tapatalk:

Hi all. It was temporarily disabled while I was trying to troubleshoot some plugins that were causing database errors. The Tapatalk plug-in hadn't been updated in quite a while, so I thought it might have been causing problems. I re-enabled it this morning, and I will upgrade the plug-in tonight. It wasn't the cause of the problems (which I have since fixed).

Thanks for your patience,

Wayne

It's been 48 hours now without any slowdowns in performance! I think that I have fixed the problem!

Looking good indeed!

EDIT:-

Non server performance related but may be there is a handy little check box to re-size externally linked pictures to browser size?

The pictures in this thread for example are huge

No disrespect to the OP it is nice to have high definition pictures but my crappy little laptop screen ain't got that kind of resolution!

I'm going to be installing a new type of attachment post that will be must easier to use, so people will host the images here instead of elsewhere. Works great on Pelican...

It's been about a week, and there have been no slowdowns reported in the logfiles. I think it's safe to call this a success for now.

Edit: I see some out of memory issues from early this morning, but I was working on the forums at that time. Not sure if I caused them, but I will keep a close eye on it.

I also just moved the search functionality to our dedicated server. This should significantly speed up daily operation *and* searching too.

Sounds like your database is throwing a party and hit the guest limit! Moving search to your dedicated server was a smart move—bet it's working like a charm now. If you ever need top-notch dedicated server hosting, HostNoc’s got your back for handling all those connections without breaking a sweat.
