Unhappy start problems

hi guys/gals,
I am having Starting problems on my 1988 190E 2.3. The engine turns over, but I have to hit on the gas pedal quite a few times, before the engine starts. this happens everytime after i leave the car for 5 or more hours.

If the car is still hot, I just have to hit the gas pedal once, and it starts easily.

Any ideas?

I was thinking it might be ECU. But I dont wanna replace th ECU as of yet.

Could it be the overvoltage protector? If so how much does an OVP cost?

Thanks
Saqib Ali

Lightbulb Do a search!

This has been discussed before. It sounds like a fuel problem, first thing that come to mind is the fuel pressure accumulator.

I had a similar problem some time ago on my 90 300E.

After reading mutiple posts regarding the OVP, decided to buy it ($50) - got ready to replace - turned out to be a blown fuse on the original OVP !

I also had ABS warning light on - is yours?

OVP is a small (appr. 25mm x 25mm x70mm) metal box with a plastic top behind the battery under a plastic cover (124, possibly the same on 190). Mine had one fuse on top (10Amp).

Question

This sounds like it might be related to the problem I am having. I picked up my '93 500E Friday after having new tires installed & an alignment done. They had run down the battery so they had to jump the car to get it started. The ABS & ASR light have been on since I picked it up. I am guessing the ABS problem has caused the ASR to cease functioning since they work together. I am going to check the box you mentioned if I can find it. My battery is in the trunk but I am sure the box you mentioned is still under the hood. Any other ideas?

hmmm. Thanks for the all the info. I will try changing the oil over the weekend.

Got another question:
I put 3000 miles on the car every 2 weeks. Should I be changing the oil filter every 2 weeks as well? or just the oil change will do?

Thanks
Saqib Ali
