Condensation in tail light lens
My left rubber gasket on my tail light assembly has apparently gone bad as condensation is appearing inside. Dealer wants $28.50 for the gasket which I'm not willing to pay.
My question is, has anybody tried a sealant such as RTV or any other type sealant to seal this area with success? If so, please tell me what you used! TIA! -Iodyn- |

Condensation
Got the same problem with my head lights on my 300D.I thought I'd try a couple of those little packs of crystals that they always pack with electrical items to keep out the moisture. Can't hurt to try.My gaskets are ok but i think it's moisture in my vacuum system. BEAR

One trick you may want to try is to remove the gasket and clean it real good with rubbing alcohol. Then give it a good wipe with a laquer thinner moistened cloth on both sides (you may want to use something less volatile - but I am a Tim the Toolman type - more cleaning power-and dries instantly). Then give it a thin skin of RTV silicone on one side and let dry a few hours. Then put a skin layer on the other side. Hang it up on a wire overnight and re-install the next day. The new coatings will give you a good seal.

Sounds like you blew a tail gasket, as opposed to a head gasket

Water in taillight lens
I have tried sealing tail light lenses with silicone with no luck. Seems like once they start leaking - that's it. One thing that has worked for me is to drill a very small drain hole in the bottom of the lens to help excess water drain out. I would definitely do that if there is any chance of freezing and cracking the lens.

I bought some small soft vacuum hose of approx the same OD at autozone. Tacked it to the lens with silicone. It has worked fine.
