300E Coolant Leak - Is that my H20 Pump????
I've got a small coolant leak comming from what I believe to be my water pump. It's located on the pass side accross from the exhaust manifold bolted to the side of the wheel well. It's where two hoses converge. It doesn't look like the standard water pump. I'm guessing it's time to replace it. Is it indeed the water pump or something else? Easy to replace? Looks like it. Info appreciated. Danka.

This is the AUXILLIARY wapter pump. Have you tried tightening the hoses yet?

Water pump on your car is on drivers side of engine. The pressurized expansion tank is around the passenger side wheel well.

the Aux water pump, ok this makes sense. I'm going to replace the hoses to this, they dont look to be in the best of shape. Maybe while I'm at it I'll just replace the aux pump too.

Donnie (Benzmac) says the way he decides how tight to tighten hose clamps is to pressurize the system with a pump and tighten the clamps just enough to stop leakage.
I bought a coolant tester pump for $75 USD from Sears and have found it VERY helpful for locating small leaks.
