What does this vacuum line control? 89 300e

My poor car has been suffering from a vacuum leak. My mighty vac has narrowed it down to this line.

What does this vacuum line control? 89 300e-img_0876.jpg

Does anybody know what it controls?

Thanks.... Gauge functions, but was showing low... I might have a small leak behind the cluster.

Could a leak like that cause the central lock to stop working, or am I just wishful thinking?

Update: The hose is all white. The line that attaches to the cluster is grey with a stripe. It is on the opposite side of the "w" connection.

This leaker is behind the cluster, but I only see about an inch of it.

Does anybody know what kind of vacuum pressure I should be seeing at idle? I was getting a reading of 15hg.

FYI
Idle in Park

And idle in Drive

The small vacuum hose going to the gauge should not greatly affect the running of the engine and has no affect on central locking.

Looked like a grey line...

The other lines at the brake booster area, go to the A/C vacuum block & vacuum storage.

Central locking is done by a pump on that car.

Thanks doc. The ac vacuum block can be accessed via the glovebox?. Its been a while since I have been around there. Also, you say vacuum storage, I would be looking for a vacuum canister of sorts? Where would I locate that?

My car at idle is a bit lower than what your car shows in drive. When it is in drive, it is almost at the halfway mark.....

That particular car has '90 model 260e has 200,000 kilometres up and is in excellent condition. Head has not been lifted. (Still drives like a new car).
