Clicking Noise- Stops when I hit brakes

Was wondering if anyone had a thought on this problem.

The clicking happens most of the time and doesn't increase or get louder at any point. I stops when I put even the slightest
pressure on the brake pedal. It sounds like it is coming from the
front drivers side.

Brake booster?
Vacuum gauge?

Thanks-

sounds like the brake pads are rattling, one of the anti-rattle springs on the brake pad may be gone or damaged.
The brake caliper may have a loose boltor the caliper sliped may be worn and have excessive play. It has to be in the caliper if the noise disappears when the brakes are applied. I had a similiar problem on my Mustang disc brakes one of the caliper mounting bolts was completely gone!

More information

Thanks for the extensive thoughts. I realized yesterday that
I can turn the ignition key to the on position and the clicking
still happens. Same simptoms, when I put slight pressure on the
brakes the clicking stops. Since the car isn't running, does that
preclude the spring or caliper? My thought was that it would
only click or rattle if the car were running and creating vibration?

Did anybody ever find a solution to this problem? I just found the same symptoms with me 1985 190E. Clicking noise sounds like it is coming from the starter area. Makes the noise whether the car is started or nor (if the key is in the on position it occurs too). Slightest tap on the brakes causes it to stop.

Ihad opposite problem

all of a sudden a clicking was noticed in left dash

It started clicking when you opened door engine off

Then when driving
the clicking started when you pressed on the brakes

The clicking only continues for about 30 seconds
but would reappear with every press on the brake pedal.

Then is just fixed itself

Now meanwhile my battery died
so when a new one was installed
Again it was clicking when you opened the door or pressed brakes w the engine off?

I heard these are hard $ fixes so I might have to live w it
but was wondering what could be causing it?
