w210 cupholder
 

Hey people,
I have a w210 e320 and the front cupholder is broken. once you press the metal button it doesnt lock in the retract position. I took it out of the console and i can't firgure out what is wrong with it. Also my wood console door for the cupholder creaks once it opens
any help would be good

Same thing happened on me E420. the problem was that there was a tiny piece of a crouton stuck inside the well where the cupholder retracts; it was interfering with retraction only a little bit, but just enough to prevent the cupholder from 'locking' in the closed position. Try taking out the cupholder again and this time clean out and vacuum out the entire cupholder assembly as well as the retraction area. You would be surprised how a little crust of bread could disable one of the coolest features of the car ;-)

Same problem here!
 

I can pull out the whole assembly but can't determine where the latch mechanism is.

A new one is about $45 at the dealer.
As you probably know, installation is a breeze.
