W210 - Sunroof got stuck and won't open
The Sunroof in our E300 got stuck in the closed position.
I tried to open it but it makes a tic tic tic kind of noise and I fear I may cause more dramas. The motor seems to work but I am not sure what is wrong in there. I tried the manual crank to open it but it is too heavy. Has anybody ever gone through this? Any help or advise please. Thanks |
Any help please

There are several things that could cause the symptoms you have.
- A faulty motor. The motor can make noise but not produce enough torque to open the sunroof - A broken cable - Something jammed in the track - Congealed or wrong lubricant used on the tracks It is difficult to open the sunroof with the handle since you must turn against the mechanical advantage of the motor gearing. If you are sure you turned hard enough then perhaps something is jammed in the track. There are DIYs online for relubrication. disassembly and repair of W210 sunroofs. |
Thanks for your reply Rich.
Do you have the link for the DIY please. I looked under the DIYs and failed to see it. Thanks a million |
Here are a couple from benzworld. The second link has a number of videos giving step-by-step instructions - just scroll down far enough.

I have been able to use the manual option with an allen wrench even with the sunroof completely closed. It just takes patience. Slowly rotate the wrench while pushing down on the window to get it into position to slide back. Then when it is down enough to slide back you have to work at it to slide it back without binding the cables in the slides. Three hands work best for this. One person alone may not be able to do it.
