I smell fuel....running rich

my 1987 190e 16v is running rich. I just had the head rebuilt and I replaced the gasket. The car wasn't running before I bought it, so I don't know if it ran rich before. How do solve the problem?

Thanks

If the the O2 sensor is dead, that is one possible cause.
