W124 ASD switch

Hello!

I wonder if it is possible to force ASD to work from standing still. I mean I have a 300TE and I had a pretty bad experience in winter, when I tried to turn around and got stuck in a track in slightly iced snow. Swithing from D to R and back made no sense, because ASD doesn't block when the car stands still.
It works from 10 km/h I think. It blocks so good, so I can lay some significant amount of rubber doing donuts when it rains. It blocks on dry road at WOT aswell.
Is that possible to wire a somekind of a switch to force ASD to block to avoid such situations?
Or my ASD doesn't work properly? When I start at WOT with the front wheels turned it usually blocks, but it doesn't block on slippy surfaces.

Thank you!
Alex.

Getting a TE Mercedes stuck in light snow is not the cars fault! That's just you being clumsy. ASD is not supposed to block anything, it locks the differential to minimize wheel spin. You doing doughnuts tells the rest of us the ASD is working just like it should do.

It's likely the clutches in your differential are worn out making the ASD mostly ineffective.

Did the warning lamp illuminate in the cluster? If so the ASD was trying to lock the differential. As I understand it ASD works from a standstill.

It's a very simple system, you could hook the one solenoid up to a manual button if you wanted.

How did you get stuck? Are your tires bald?

My 300E without ASD has made it through 4 Colorado winters (on 17" tires!), didn't try dedicated snow tires until last year. Car is an absolute TANK. Never got it stuck once. Snow is coming soon here in Colorado and I still need to find winter tires.... :)

Your 300E has ASR not ASD probably... different system that uses the brakes to "lock" the diff.
