Brake light gremlins
96 E300 the brake light out indicator comes on every few weeks. I have replced the bulbs, then after a few weeks it happens again. I found that simply readjusting the bulb socket fixes the problem for a few more weeks then it happens again. Next I have replaced the bulb sockets and the problem still persists. Is this a common problem for the 210 chassis? If so, what is the fix ( replace the tail light assembly???)
thanks for any help.... |
Are you using brass based (US standard) or nickel based (Euro) bulbs? If using brass, get the nickel base bulbs.

I have found when that happened on mine that one of the metal rails in the taillight housing that the bulb sockets sit in worked itself loose over time and caused intermittent operation.
Although it looked fine visually, I ended up pressing along the rail until the indicator light went out. Then I firmly pressed it down on that area to resecure it to its original position. A few weeks later, I broke the taillight lens when I backed into a pickup truck, so a new taillight assembly completely solved the problem. |
