w123 Drag Link boot failure - Faulty or at fault?

I've been slowly working through a front suspension replace/rebuild and recently noticed that the drag link I installed several months back has already failed with the rubber boots having split. The vehicle has not left the jack stands in this time or really been subjected to much anything. Is this a case of a faulty/old part or have I somehow installed the part wrong?

The drag link in question is a Febi part manufactured in Italy.
