W124 E320 Throttle Actuator question

Hey guys,

Recently my mothers E320 wagon has become hard to start (though runs fine) and she took it in to a shop to have it looked at. Turns out it's the Throttle Actuator wiring harness causing the issue. It has deteriorated.

She was quoted $1500 to replace it, which I told her to pass on because I would do it for her.

I need to locate a replacement. I'm hesitant on using a used unit because if the wiring should fail on it again then I'm out $300. There is a used one from a 96 that I am looking at, but would that be better than one from 94 wiring wise? I would think so but I'm not sure.

Also does anyone know of any companies that reman these for a reasonable price? That is what I really want, a reman'd unit.

The part number is 00-141-49-25, and it IS the ASR version.

Thanks!

ASR throttle actuators do tend to be finicky and shortlived but bad wiring alone is no reason to junk one. It's a sophisticated and expensive but redoing the wiring is quite simple, lots of DIY threads and articles on the subject.

^I'm not junking the old one, I needed a quick replacement. It's for my mothers car so it needed to be a quick turnaround.

I bought a used one from a 96 E320 with 72k on it. It should be a good replacement.

Collincoon,
I thought mine was bad and sent it to BBA Remanufacturing in the Boston area. Put it on my 300CE and the problem was still there. I then bought a used one with less miles, installed it and the problem still remains.
I have the the rebuilt one for sale. It was rewired and checked out by BBA. It has been sitting for a year in my garage. If interested, I can send pics and a copy of the invoice. It is yours for $200.

Welcome to Beckmann Technologies!

Beckmann has been rebuilding MB electronics for 2 decades.

But yes, 124s with ASR can present all kinds of problems when there is a bad ground (on a taillight for example). Check all the basics before reklacing expensive parts just because the code reader says so.

1996 could also have bad wiring so check it before you put it on.

You may want to check out this place. They guarantee as long as you own the car.
