W210 Drivers side mirror color

I have a 2000 W210 wagon that I just got, The drivers side mirror glass is a light gold or bronze color while the passenger side looks like regular mirror glass. Is this normal or is the mirror auto dimmer failed? I saw one for sale on E bay and it looked the same.

unable to conclude anything over the keyboard, but just so you're clear, the
electro-gel does fail and when it does, the hue of the mirror does turn bronze,
to brown. this continues over a period of weeks/months. i have read cautions
from owners that the gel can damage paint.

I can tell you that my mirrors are bluish and seem to work fine. I replaced the glass in the right hand side mirror and it wasn't outrageous.

It sounds like your self dimming glass has failed. The one for my '97 was $230 aftermarket, but yours might be a bit higher for your model. I have read that you can cut away the plastic rim around the outer glass, and remove the outer glass and the goo inside, leaving behind a silver heated mirror, but it might be easily scratched if it is silvered on the outside of the glass. I seem to remember that the glass from MB was $575, but that sounds so absurd that I must be wrong.
