Cruise Control cuts out

I have a 1985 TDT and my cruise control cuts out. If I hold the CC switch it will hold at the desired speed, but as soon as I let go, the CC stops working. I haven't had time to look at the componets of the CC system yet. Could the problem be in the swicth itself? or could it be the amplifier? If anyone has any suggestions of where the best place to start trouble shooting please shoot them my way. Thanks.

For the symptoms you describe, almost certainly the amplifier. You can search the archives on removing it and resoldering any broken connections, or there are several sources of rebuilt units--one place has a section on their website about how to test the amplifier, too. Hope this helps, Andrew Seidel.

I had problems with my CCA recently. I tried to re-solder, but the fix lasted for a single trip. There are quite a few posts on the subject of DIY cruise control repair.
I went ahead and ordered the CCA from the http://www.benz-store.com/index.html . They are knowledgeable and friendly. In addition, the prices are the best that I have found. Good luck

Did you replace any light bulbs recently? As strange at it may sound, I have heard that when people install non-mercedes bulbs, their cruise control stops working. I would check that out first, as it may save a lot of money...

Do a search - there is a write up explaining how the brake lights can keep the cc from working. The circuit grounds through the brake light bulbs. More detail in the write up.
