Angry Front Pump Leaking??? HELP!

My 93' 500 SEL with 85K had been at the repair shop for about two weeks having the timing chain and guides replaced. Went to pick it up today and they told me the front pump on the transmission was leaking. They showed me. Leaking bad! My question is, the car was sitting for two weeks as they were replacing the timing chain, etc. What would cause it to start leaking all of a sudden? The mechanic told me that during his test drive while running the car hard after stopping he noticed the leak. Please tell me what is going on here. HELP! Now he is saying another $1,000-$1,500 to soft rebuild the transmission.

HELP!!!

That price is about right. I would charge about $850-$900 for a front pump reseal. That includes seals such as the dipstick and torque converter.

This is a common problem on the .3 tranny.

Donnie,

A couple of questions, pretty specific:

1. Is that about your price for a 1989 560 SEL trans reseal? (I have not been under the 1993 500 S class, and don't know if there is a substatial difference in labor there) I have some leaking out of the torque converter cover and other seals are starting to weep. Not bad, but enough to leave a spot or two on the garage floor. I am holding off for now, as the thing just shifts and drive so well.

2. How far is your shop from the Orlando, Fl area? I know you are in southern Georgia, but up I-95 or I-75 from here?

I understand most of the folks hate posting prices or quoting on things they have not seen, so no problem if you give me a "no quote" type answer. I appreciate your reply, either way.
