03 c320

help please!! someone on another site said it could be a fuel pump?
my dad has a 03 mercedes C320. he was driving it around 20 mph and giving it gas, no RPM spike, the engine didn't rev or anything, it just went like it was in neutral. he turned the car off, turned it back on and it was fine. he took me driving last night. while attempting to launch from a dead stop, i put my foot all the way down and same thing happened, no RPM spike, you didn't hear the engine revving at all. turned it off and restarted it, it was fine. the car is a 2003 with only 46k miles on it. nothing has been modified on the car except an exhaust system. what could this be? he is going to have to bring it in to Mercedes service but im sure you all know thats not going to be cheap depending on what it is. what can this be? any help would really be appreciated

Have you actually plugged in a code reader or are you just relying on the fact that the console isn't displaying anything? Codes can be stored without you seeing any evidence of it and that can point towards a solution.

That's the first thing I'd do.

If you're in the US and not in CA, go to any Autozone or Aamco. They'll plug in a reader for free.

Get the actual codes, not their suggested diagnosis, then bring them back and post them.

Good luck.

I called Autozone, and was told they would hook up and check it. I stoped at an O'Rilley's, and they would test check, as well. He told me I could do it, if I wanted to. I just had to leave some ID to take it out and use it at the store there. You have to know where your test plug is at. The one I was going to test was under dash by right leg pointing downward. Then just plug in to it with the ignition switch turned on. You just follow the prompts on the OBDII scanner, and within a 10 or 15 second time. It will display the code and discription on the screen. I just wanted to do it for the sake of doing it! For a freebie it's worth the effort.

You can also buy a basic code reader for $30 at Amazon; I'm a huge proponent of the idea that most benz owners should have one.

But in a pinch and before you've bought it, running by the store to have them read is the thing to do.
