question on 06 C280, drivers seat control not controlling seat properly
 

I looked at the above listed car today and the control for the seat does not adjust what it represents on the seat. I can push the seatback portion of the control and the seat moves forward. Push the seat forward selection and the back of the seat tilts forward. Owner stated that it worked find until it was taken into one of the nearby dealers on a tow truck needing the ignition/immobilizer sorted out. Did actuation and the seat works fine in regards to what moves when you perform a certain selection from the laptop. Not so sure about the seat control.

Any thoughts?

Same issue with a new switch. Trying to troubleshoot now. There seems to be some electrical issues going on with the car in regards to the seat adjustment (drivers) and the sunshade. When modules go bad what happens?

Oh yea, the owner indicated that there were no issues with the seat until some ignition switch work was performed on the chipped key. Seems that the key quit working and she had it flat bedded to the MB dealer in Augusta and by the time she found out it did not properly control she was already back home ~100 miles away.

It sounds like your telling us that the seat problem began immediately after the "ignition switch" work was done??? Does this mean the ignition switch was replaced? If so, I'll bet some simple version coding of the EIS will fix the problem.

That is correct, the issue happened right after the ign switch system was replaced. I'll study up on the version coding of the EIS. Thanks

Regarding your PM. Not sure about the cloned SDS. Other than that, coding the EIS is pretty simple. You may need to know the vehicles option codes and/or modification year to get it right. A VMI will come in very handy. :)

Is this the control unit version information? Is this where you do the transfer?

No, that's not the page you're looking for. From the EIS main menu, choose either control unit adaptations or initial start-up.

I got a copy of the VMI from the dealer. During May it says they replaced the switch and master key. Does not really go into anymore detail than that. I'm planning on taking the car and my stuff down to Gainesville to get some "formal" training week after next:).

I have not really spent much time digging into the EIS because I was focused on the DCM - LF.

Went into the computer and found that the version code was not set up for power seat with memory. Changed the coding successfully and it still did the same thing. It is almost like the switch is improperly wired but I've already tried a new switch and it acted the same way.

Try unplugging the seat control module for a while then plugging it back in or maybe the seat control modules are the same right to left and you can swap them for test.

I disconnected the negative battery cable for a period of time and it did not make any difference. Would this be the same as disconnecting the seat control module for a period of time? I'll have to look and see if the seat control modules have the same part number or not.

I ought to put a set of seats in it from a 1979 300SD but I'm sure the owner would miss her seat warmers:).

It is almost like wires 8-6 and 8-7 are backwards based on what it is doing to the seat:rolleyes:. I may try to figure out which wires to put where in the switch termination to make it at least get closer to it's accuracy.

8-7 indicates which terminal 8 is ground). The readings are in ohms.

The car also has door control modules how this works is the switch is plugged into the door control module so the door control module gets the signal from the switch then sends that to the seat control module that that actually trying to move the motors in the seat. I believe that the signals are getting mixed up in one of the modules and your best bet is to try and swap them side to side if the part numbers are the same. I dont think the wires would get crossed up.
