Bad day: Coolant change, winter wheels....

Well it was a "warm" day up here so I decided to FINALLY change the green coolant out of the 560 and get the G-05 put in. I flushed the system with a garden hose and tap water. I disconnected the lines to the washer fluid and with a rag pressurized the system at the expansion tank. Worked well, got all the green crap out. I also used a glass to sample the water appearance as it drained form the radiator to make sure its clear.

Then I followed with some distilled water. After everything drained I added the coolant. Thats when I ran into a problem.

I could not identify the drain plugs. Nothing at the back of the engine seemed to look like one. There were a couple up front, I think. So I decided to just do the above and flush it out as best as I could with plugs in place. I even blew into the washer fluid warmer lines to blow out coolant.

Well when it came time to fill I got only two gallons in. Which is 7.5 liter when the capacity is 13 liters. So I can only assume there was still a good amount of water in the system. And that would mostly be tap water since I am sure the distilled did not displace it much.

To make it worse, one gallon was concentrate but the next was 50/50. I have yet to do the math, but I am thinking the system will only be good to zero degrees and not the negative 34 I was shooting for. Its getting tested though, better safe than sorry.

The icing on the cake was that the MB rim set and tires I picked up had an incorrect offset that they just will not work. And the lugs stuck out about 2 inches.

I hope the alignment goes well tomorrow then its time to shop for tires!

Just thought I would post that my coolant is good to negative twenty.

Now off to do ball joint! Alignment could not be done :(

-20°F indicates you have roughly 45% antifreeze in the coolant.
