KYB instead of Bilstein???
3 weeks ago, I was doing some pricing on Bilstein struts/shocks for my 91 300D and today I'm surprised the price went about 20 - 30 %. Is it Euro rate...? Here is what quoted
Rear: HD $ 92.43 ---> $ 124.33 Sport $ 116.97 ---> $ 147.45 Front: HD $ 164.41 ---> $ 218.77 Sport $ 169.31 ---> $ 217.37 Has anyone try KYB? any comments? Rear: $ 54.51 Front: $ 74.26 Are they made in Japan? thanks! |
Try looking for sachs/boge OEM shocks and struts, in the partshop the prices are cheaper than bilstiens. Don't use KYB they do not last. But if you intend to sell your car soon then maybe....
Apart from the partshop here...you can also try www.shox.com for sachs/boge. |
I have used KYB, Bilstein, Sachs, and Koni. If you buy the KYB, IMHO you will regret it. I found them to be very rough riding, the standard shock to me was stiffer than the performance shocks I had on the car. I would go with the other 3 before I bought another KYB.

I didn't like the KYB shocks that I put on my 190E. They felt worn out after a year. I prefer the shocks to be a little stiff. I stillhave them on the car but I wont buy KYB's again.

My KYB's have held up well, but I bought the performance versions and they are WAY TOO STIFF. They have a lifetime warranty, and I plan on replacing them with standard KYB's soon for no cost.
I should have bought Bilstiens. Have a great day, |
If you're keeping the car
Suck it up and by the bilsteins. You will be happy you did. I put bilstein HD's on my 1977 300D and I couldn't be happier. They were a little firm at first, but softened up to a comfortable, secure ride.

Thanks guys.
I have HD on my 300SD and they work well. Should have bought them 3 weeks ago. I just can't figure out why the price went up that much(20-30%). If KYB has lifetime warranty may be I can change them once a year.;) |
