Should I use a special type of Trans fluid for my 224k 300E TO prolong its life? Thanks

If you have been using the same fluid for the 224k, I would just keep on using the same fluid. At that point if you were to change to something different, then you may start having some problems since the synthetic has a different friction compound.
If you are having problems and want to prolong the life for some time, I would recommend using synthetic trans fluid: Redline, Mobil, Castrol, Amsoil. Not in any special order. They may help some! |

Mercedes Tuner (cool name)
I bought the car from a Mercedes Service Manager with 200k on the clock, I'm sure he changed it regularly....this is the original trans and it is in perfect operating condition. I am aware of a very very small leakage like a few drops a month small. just wondering if something like the synethetic you mentioned would be good for it because of the high mileage. Thanks for the reply

I am sure that the Service Manager was using the Factory ATF, and by that, I would keep on using the Factory ATF. It is possible that changing to synthetic at that point would cause more problems.
There are a few pretty comon spots for those transmissions to leak, and after that kind of mileage, I would expect some leakage. I woudn't worry about it too much, but it would be a good idea to find out what is leaking, that way you know. And if it is something small, then I would get it fixed. If it is anything big, I would just let it go and not worry about it until it gets worse. |

That tranny likes whatever its had in it for the equivalent of two ot three lifetimes of other transmissions. Why change now? Don't muck with success.
