ATE or Bendix?

My 91 560 SEL has a very, very slight fluid leak in a front caliper. I priced rebuild kits, which are about $30, and rebuilt unloaded calipers for about $50 each.

The rebuilds are ATE or Bendix and priced the same. But it was suggested to match what I have installed.

First, does it matter if I switch caliper brand?

Second, is one better than the other?

I figured replacing them would be easier than rebuilding myself. Especially given the small price difference.

A vote for ATE- it's a known quantity on these cars. Swap both of 'em to ensure no funky problems surface.

--- Rebuilding 'em is easy if you have an air compressor- just don't split 'em (you'll never get it to seal up right again) just replace the piston o ring and main seals.

PS if you try to rebuild keep your hand away from the piston as you apply forced air to the caliper- it will shatter your hand when it comes out.
