Broken anntennea mast repair

I attempted to replace my power antennea mast on my 1990 190E. The old one was broken off ( I wont go into that). My problem is that the new mast does not retract all the way and I suspect that part of the nylon track is broken off in the motor assembly.
Any quick fixes? Can I possibly cut the nylon track down on the new one so it retracts all the way or is disasembly of the motor in order?

My early 190E has a Hirschmann antenna, and never used to go fully up. It's easy to take apart, which it sounds like you've already done. Make sure the mast is fully oiled and slides okay, I think you'll find it runs for a set time before stopping the motor - does the motor keep turning but the mast doesn't go the whole way down? If so, you may find some of the rollers have come loose inside the aerial box.. all you can really do is to look in and have a look

later,

Russ

I agree. Easy to remove the antenna from the car, and then the cover of the antenna comes off when you unsnap the 12 or so clamps around the perimeter of the motor assembly. Pretty obvious what to look for once you get the cover off. With the cover off, you can manually rotate the rubber drive belt, and if there is a piece of old nylon cord stuck in there, it'll eventually come out.
