Keyless Entry Wiring Key (W126,W123,ETC)

Hey everyone, I just wrapped up an install on my dad's SD so I figured I'd share my experience and maybe help someone out.

I used a fairly cheap unit, Avital 2101L, I paid $28 for it. In my particular application (82 300SD) I needed to install an acutator to drive the front door lock as Mercedes didnt equip the early w126s with vaccum abilities at this door. As I was poking around in there I swear I saw a vacuum nipple so perhaps one could just run a vac line to it and it would work. I didnt try though. You'll want to get a high-power/high torque actuator for the door lock. I bought a cheapy $3 when I got the Avital unit however it was inadequate. I ended up buying one locally that did the job excellently.

Heres the simple rundown:

1) I installed the control unit in the second firewall area just next to the brake booster assembly.

2) I ran all the necessary wires into the cabin using the hood-release cable grommet.

3) I used some steel cable to fish the two wires for the actuator through the accordions in the door jamb. I had a third wire tap the top door check switch in order to activate the dome light when the unlock button is pressed.

4) The actuator was mounted to the lower outside area of the door and then the rod was connected to the vertical lock rod.

5) I wired up the controller as indicated in the image below. I havent done the parking/horn connections yet as its pretty cold outside but other than that it works!

If anyone has any questions or comments, let me know. I'll be happy to answer.

Thanks for posting. Always good to see what does work.

Do you know how to wire a remote window function? I have the remote start/ keyless entry system, but I could never figure out how to do the remote window roll up/down

Theres typically an additional module that you must buy/install. According to the install manual on the unit, they recommend a Directed 529T or 530T.

Directed 529T (dei-529t) Window Control Modules
Directed 530T Power Window Automation System - Sonic Electronix

It looks like the 530T is designed to do a bit more than the 529T, more windows and some additional output channels.

From what I've gathered, this is the appropriate wiring diagram for a w201:

If you want to do the sunroof, they recommend the 529T unit.

Here's the install PDF:

thank you! I have scytek system with several different features, but I couldn't find a wiring diagram. thanks for the help

Hopefully it works out for you, Does the system readily support operating windows? or does it need an addon? I recon those module will work for any existing system as long as it as the output to key off.

Glad it is working well. I am going to order one and give it a shot.

I was wondering if there is a level of risk of getting a lockout with those? Like if the fuse goes or the key refuses if the mode doesn't switch. I noticed some referred to OEM. Did Mercedes offer any option per se for them as an add-on?

I've had Directed (parent company of Avital) products installed on my w201 and w126 for about 3 years on the 201 and 5 on the 126. I've not had any problems. If the power goes out to the keyless unit you can always just use your key.

In my w126s installs, the keyless system is in parallel with the factory key-op vacuum lock. The keyless unit just triggers an aftermarket actuator to pull up/down on the drivers door lock stem.

I'm not aware of Mercedes offering any remote entry stuff on the w126 or w201 models. I could be wrong though.

Thanks for the reply back! I think, I will give it a try. I have been thinking on it for awhile from time to time. It is probably a lot less stress on the keyed door actuators that way. I don't know if my alarm still works or not? I never have even tried it.

I think my scytek system readily supports the remote window function as the programmable keys have axillary buttons to use for extra remote functions. It even mentions it in the manual but I just didn't know how to go about doing the wires.....I will give it a shot though when I have time

I finally got around to installing the parking light flash relays on the SD today.

I didn't quite follow my own advice, here's how I wired up the relays. Either way will work though, in the manual for the unit, it says "high current output" for the parking lamp flash output. I left the polarity setting for output at factory default (+).

I used these relays, they were pretty cheap and I was able to fit them into the fuse box nicely:

great job and info

1987 300 SDL,, my car got trashed twice in 7 days so I farmed out the job,, all they would do was the alarm they would not hook up the remote door locks or remote starter,, said there was only 500 mv to the locks and that would not do ,,, I bought a electric door lock from the wreckers, and to relays to up the amps and hope to install that to motivate the lock ,, any thoughts ?

Can you elaborate more on this? 500mV to the locks? What did you buy from the wreckers?

I'm adding RKE to a W124 with this kit I got on Ebay for about $45 depending on the exchange rate: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices ignore the Honda in the title as it's a universal kit. I went with this one because the remote looks closest to the later factory remotes and it can use a switchblade key. The actual remotes that I got have the symbols on the buttons filled in with white so it looks even better than the picture. The blade key didn't match the key I had so I got a matching pair here for $10: BENZ KEY BLANK FOR FLIP/ FOLDING REMOTE MB48, W124, W126, W140, R107, R170, R129 | eBay The most expensive part was getting the keys cut. I called around and found one place that did it for $60 the pair. I haven’t installed the module yet, but already I like that I don't need to carry a separate remote and key like the other aftermaket systems.
