Anyone Read Paint Codes??
2 Attachment(s)
Can someone tell me what the paint codes are for my 1990 300SE? See attached photos. I want to get some touch up paints for body paint and paint on lower cladding and bumpers, which is darker. I can't tell if this is the champagne or the smoked silver and have no idea what the color is on bumpers? And where is a good place to get touch up paints? Thanks!

702 rauchsilber (smoke silver)

On the above link, in the lower half they show the accent/bumper colors, I'd say it's the DB8477 Chinchila Poly, top row far right in that lower section of colors.

Ah..the 702, but what about the bumper color?
What color is it? And what is the code for that one. Thanks for the help!

What I am telling you is to look at the color chart I listed, it is for 1990. Smoke Silver 702 is the paint code. They don't list the trim color on the plate. It may be listed on your warranty sheet, otherwise the parts system should list it (EPC). Or a call to MB should help. But if you look at the sheet I linked you to they show the trim and bumper colors that they used, I believe yours is the "Chinchila Poly", top row far right in the lower section.

According to EPC the lower is Mussel Grey, aka Shell Grey Metallic, number 7176, aka DB176.

What is "EPC"?
I am not familiar with EPC, it kind of looks like the "chinchilla" as it has a kind of dull brownish tone.

Will the VIN # Have this info?
How can the colors be determined using VIN #

I saw the posts on other sites regarding the mussel or shell gray. I think what was being discussed was 124 chassis cars. I am not sure if this is true for 126 chassis cars.
Yes, looking at the car, isn't the bottom color a dullish brown color?? At any rate it should be shown in that color chart. maybe it is the shell gray (mussel gray, same thing, on the chart they call it shell gray). No color code in the VIN, but need the VIN to look it up. EPC is electronic part catalog. Easiest thing to do is call the area dealer and talk to part dept, ask them if they can enter your vin on EPC to determine the color code or description of the trim color. Or call Mercedes (1 800 for mercedes) and ask if they can tell you. If you aren't getting anywhere PM me your VIN. |
Keep in mind too that the EPC can't tell you what color your car is, it can only tell you how if left the factory 20+ years ago. Lots of strange things happen to these cars over that period of time.
