1985 500SEL

I drove a 1985 500SEL today, original owner, all maintenance documentation back to day 1, 104K miles. 100% original paint, interior was in great shape. Chrome looked new, spare never on the ground. Everything works except the power head rests (i.e. HVAC, windows, 4 heated seats, reclining rear seat, cruise etc...). Known issues - needs new battery (had to jump it, did not hold charge) antilock light on, missing hood pad. It has been sitting in his heated work shop for most of its life, driven as nice day car or trips to FL (from KY). It has seen very little use since 2008. This is by far one of the nicest 126's I have ever driven, love the color (smoke silver with brown leather). He wants $7,500 - I think that is very aggressive considering the "bad items" and what I have seen on this and other forums. He did tell me someone called him and said it was worth 4500 at most - his response was "well not this car LOL". I have no clue about the antilock light - did some research looks like it could be all kinds of possible issues....

What you guys think it is worth? Anything else I should be concerned about?

thanks!

Wink

at that price, you can find a very nice low mileage 1990 or 1991 560SEL. The last of the W126 body, all updates, etc... If you can wait, make a lower offer and see where that will lead you. If the seller will not budge then might as well look for a 560SEL

For $7,500 I wouldn't even think of buying it unless it was absolutely flawless mechanically and cosmetically and had a full history. And even then I would only think about it for a minute and move on.

Honestly I think (or at least hope) he is fishing... It really is cosmetically in spectacular condition in and out (except the hood pad). He does have the history from his purchase (when it was 1 year old with 8K miles). I was thinking of offering $5,500 - am I crazy?
