92 300e tail light
Thought this would be a simple fix, burned out tail light... change bulb everything good. Well , after two bulbs , lots of wire jiggling, the damn thing only works sometimes. Do I need a new assembly? any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, JP

Check the metal strip to which the bulbs attach. The tabs on the plastic backing wear out allowing the metal strip to lift causing poor contact between the nib on the bulb and the contact on the plastic. There might be a way to reshape the contact or reattach the metal strip to the plastic backing but it's probably easier to hit the yards for new bulb holder assemblies.

Check the Ground Wire
There is a brown wire in the metal strip that the bulbs go into, this is the ground wire. This wire goes into a groove and may have a bad connection. We were able to remove the metal strip that the bulbs go into and pinch the wire tighter in the groove making the lights work properly.
