Euro 190E 2.5-16v

I have an option on an '88 EURO Version 190E with a 2.5L-16V engine with Automatic Transmission.

Practically not knowing anything about this car... I would like to ask about the perfromance of this car from anyone who had the same model.
Also if possible, what it the selling price of this car in the US, to determine if I am getting a good price.
Thanks

I'm not quite sure if the 2.5-16 was ever sold in the US. They surely don't have it in www.kellybluebook.com or www.edmunds.com.

Pricing will ultimately depend on the exterior, interior and mechanical condition of the vehicle, mileage, proper maintenance, modifications (may increase or decrease the value, depending...) etc.

How much is he/she asking for?

a US version with solid drive train, good interior, and good body with 100k miles would go for about 7k USD. the euro version has better performance so you may pay a little more.

You mean 2.3 - 16, don't you? I know that 2.3 was the only '-16' in the US. Factoid: This was the first car Aerton Senna personally owned. Not sure if he had to buy it with his own money!

2.5-16V

Thank you to everyone who provided a reply.
The 2.5-16V naver made it into the US, and was only released in Europe from 1989 to 1992. It was an upgrade from the 2.3-16V that was released in the US.

I ended up buying the car.
I hope to tell you about the perfromance soon.

Congrats!

How much?

...And don't forget the pics!

JOJO126 02-11-2002 12:11 AM

BOUGHT IT

Rain Maker, Got it for U$12,500 but remember 40% of the price is TAX.
Philippine laws consider any mercedez a luxury car no matter the age and assess it a 40% TAX based on an "bloated" blue book value.

The car was shipped from Germany and has 88,000KM on it, but I am not sure if the odometer is accurate. The car in general is in great condition, no rust and has the 17" AMG Mags and Pirelli Tires. Even has a GPS system but that doesn't work in this country.

Will send pictures as soon as possible.
BTW, the aircon does not blow cold air, probably from the 90-days shipping. Whre should I start? Is it just Freon. What should I look out for when checking the AC system.

rainmaker 02-11-2002 11:03 AM

Ouch!

Seems a bit steep, hopefully the rest of the car is in great condition... congratulations are in order...

Take it to Naji Kassouf over at Ultra Car Detailing. Have him go through the car with a fine tooth comb. Pricey, but he does good work. He restores lots of cars and has people to go through every system. For your interior, take it to Kelseat. He has a computer that cuts the correct pattern for cars that have come out in the last 20 years or so...plus he has access to the correct leather, velour, etc.

Good luck!

SERVICE SHOPS

Rainmaker, I am based in Manila, Philippines.
Are the shops you mentioned based in my country?
If YES, do you know their contact numbers?

I know the car is pricey but I've always wanted to have a similar car since I was younger and my father advised me before that I did not deserve the car. So now that I have my own means of purchasing the car, I wanted to relive those old days in the same vehicle. I know a fellow enthusiast will understand the sentiment.

I know precisely what you mean....that's why I got my car...wanted it the first time I saw it on Car and Driver back in 92 but unfortunately, the $80K MB was asking for wasn't readily available...

Ultra Car Detailing
Naji Kassouf
893 7530

They're located at Pasong Tamo. You take a right on Pasong Tamo from EDSA (you know, where the MB dealer CASCOR is). Then on Pasong Tamo, take the first right again. They're by the gate of San Lorenzo. You can't miss it...

GREAT!

Rainmaker, thank you for the tips!
Even better to know that I "maybe" corresponding with someone from the same country and an investment banker at that.

I will definetly visit Naji Kassouf for detailing.
How about Mechanics. Who do you recommend that I can trust?
Who services your 500E?

Finally, what do I do with the Aircon?
Is it safe to load Freon just to test if the AC will produce cold air?
Thanks Again!!!

He can do all of those for ya, don't worry about it. He did my car. Yes, I'm "local" to you...

As to my 500E, Commercial Motors (motor, suspension, etc.) does the big stuff while Naji does the small stuff (replace harnesses, sensors, detailing, clear coat, etc.)

I'll give him a call tomorrow so he'll know you'll be dropping by.

Good luck. And gimme a ride when you get the chance...

KELSEAT?

Rainmaker, any information about Kelseat?
Hope you can text me at 0917-7920428.

I have called Ultra Car Detailing and inquired about the services they offer... they sound professional. I tried to get a CD Manual for the car from Best Perfromance, unfortunately this 2.5 was never released in the US and thus no manual available. I hope CMC and ULTRA have a manual for this model.
No problem with the test drive.
I'd also love to see the nice 500E found in your albums.

Havce a Nice V-Day.

re Kelseat: speak with Naji. He knows them and can get you a good deal.

re CD for 2.5-16: suggest you browse ebay for the microfiche instead. Do an international search. There are some guys from germany who are able to supply these. Just make sure you stress that you want the originals, and not copies, because they're not that clear. When you get the Microfiche, bring it to the Kodak HQ, also in Pasong Tamo, they'll process them and put the images on a CD for ya. The microfiche will have parts explosions and relevant part numbers.

A MILLION THANKS

RAINMAKER, a million thanks for all your assistance.
I got the car today and it was super trip from Subic to Manila.
The Car drives super and the handling is great.
Considering I was driving a 2.5-Engine I was imagining how much stronger the handling of your car being 500E.
Again thanks a million.
