1992 300CE exhaust
Ok, I have read so many things on whether a performance exhaust is good for the engine on the car. M104 24 valve engine.
Do you all have any suggestions on how we can provide a performance system exhaust (not to loud, but throaty) on the '92 300CE? Something that won't break my son's bank? I have heard if you take the existing resonator out that would do the trick, others say new magnaflow cat and muffler system. I am confused....especially living in CA. Thanks.

Stock exhaust is free flowing enough. Only thing that will net you more power is to gut the cat, which being in California is out of your possibility.
Last option is a high flow magnaflow cat, but the gains will be small, maybe 5HP at best. Don't waste the money unless you are failing emissions and you KNOW its the cat. Spend the money instead getting a tune up and all fluids and filters changed. If you want a throaty noise, you can always punch a hole in the exhaust before the muffler...
