300E starting to sway...
What are the first parts I need to look at / replace with my w124 in the rear end? It has just started to become unstable and wiggle a bit on the back end where it was pretty rock solid before (at least I thought it was). Does not do anything noticeable on acceleration but wiggle the wheel and it will, or make lane changes and you'll get a little wiggle out of her. I remember reading it might be some easy, inexpensive parts?

Rear control arms, subframe mounts...
About $200 for each set. Subframe mounts not necessarily "easy". |
Ughh. OK. I'll have to have my mechanic friend help me then.

don't forget the bushing that's on the bottom of the spindle, 220 352 02 27. good luck, chuck.

You might as well re- do the whole thing. Fixing one will hasten the failure of the rest. By droppng the entire subframe, you can replace all the rubber bits in the middle of your garage or driveway. Sure beats doing it on your back.
I started spraying my rear end with the pb blaster about 2 weeks before I stripped it down. I went through 2 cans, but had NO problems removing bolts. Im in the rust belt. The entire job can be done in a long weekend if you have access to a press of some sort. I did not, so I finished in 2 weekends. Lastly, buy genuine MB parts. Go to your dealer, or call phil and he will shop around for you. The aftermarket stuff, including lemforder and the rest just dont fit well. Its a big headache when that aftermartet doo-doo doesnt fit. |
Wow. Yes, it is always better to get it all taken care of if I can. But not sure if I have the time and place to do all of that at once. Thanks for the advice. I may go a piece at a time depending on what part it is at the time.
