Anybody use the metal guide rails on a 116.xxx engine?
I gotta do the best I can with this engine. You know about the lifetime warranty that goes with a car when you sell it to one of your kids.

Better than the lifetime warranty that goes with a car when you give it to one of your kids!

Is this the 380SE you referred to in another thread? Is that a 3.8 V8 with single-row timing chain? If you haven't yet, and you want to do the best you can with the car, investigate a double-row conversion. The single-row chains were said to be prone to breakage on the 3.8s.

MB changed to 'double rows' sometime before 85. I changed the chain and all the guides six or seven years ago. It has been dormant for a couple/three years so I thought I'd freshen it up before the kid gets it. I got the metal guides and some other stuff to try and make it safe.
No one bought and used the metal guides? |
I've got metal backed guides in my 420SEL. I didnt put them in my mech did.
|
How many miles on them now?
I guess its academic at this point. The metal guides should be delivered tomorrow. I'll let you know about them when they break or wear out. |
