Adding tranny fluid to a GL450

Someone I know proceeded to dump the tranny fluid on his '07 GL450 and change the filter, then discovered that there is no apparent way to replace the fluid. There is no obvious dipstick tube to put fluid back in.

Even though MB went cost cutting nuts by eliminating dipsticks, there still has to be a way to replenish the fluid. How did the factory put the fluid in, in the first place?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need special pump through drain plug if it's 7speed trany.
Good luck

Ditto, thru the drain plug.

Check the fluid level at 35-40C, with car running & in park.

ie; remove the drain plug when fluid is at the temperature & a few drops should come out.

Ok, please explain to me how you fill up, from the bottom. Is the drainplug on these newer transmissions not a "drainplug" in the traditional sense, but a check valve. I don't see how you can pump fluid up and into the tranny through a drainplug hole, without it coming back out. What happened to the trainplugs on the torque converter, which is where the bulk of the fluid is?

Thanks

There is a plastic extension just above the drain plug that sets the fluid level.

Of course you will need to PUMP the fluid (4 liters) into the trans.

AST tools have a nice system for that job.
