w123 coil spring removal tool??????
 

Well just wondering has anybody used another type of coll spring compressor with any luck besides the Mercedes type? Trying to avoid buying the Mercedes compressor for 175.00. Thx Robert

you could always buy the tool and when your done rent it to other members in the tool section.
$25 a pop along with a security deposit and you'll have it paid for in no time!

If you think you'll need more than a few times, I'd get the $175 one. If it looks like a one use item, than the $30 one is probably fine.

It took me a few clicks to see what you meant by the $30 option...

...There is no way that that spring compressor will work on W123 front springs. W123 front springs are monsters - if a spring compressor was to "let go" on a compressed W123 front spring I could imagine that someone would loose their teeth / leg / arm / hand / eye / life...

Look I don't want to cause panic - the point I would like to make is that these springs are seriously powerful and they could cause some serious damage. I'm not saying that it is like playing with radioactive waste but you do need to be respectful and careful with them.


The Klann spring compressors are meant to be the best. But they should be at that price. The cheaper "knock off" types are OK but they are often slightly wider than the Klann which means that you have to modify the hole in the chassis of the car so you can thread the compressor down inside the spring.
