Pentosin Power Steering Fluid

Hi Guys,

My dad has a 1998 ML320 which he needs to put some PS fluid in.

I have some hydraulic fluid left over from the self leveling suspension in a W124 wagon. I've read a few things that suggest this is also the pentosin standard.

Can anyone confirm ?

I don't think they are the same fluid. I wouldn't risk mixing them.

If the Pentosin fluid is red or clear, it is vegetable-based and will destroy the hydraulics in a later model (mineral-based) system.

If it is green or blue, you might be ok.

The final test: dip something metallic in the fluid and put a match to it.

The vegetable oil burns with a little urging, but the mineral oil will smoke and smoke but not burn.

ml power steering for w 163 is specific, dont use 124 hydraulic fluid, or pentosin. ask your dealer for correct fluid

Thanks for the tip, anyone know why this power steering system has a specific PS fluyid? Or is it specific to all MB PS systems after a certain model?

P.N. Q 1 46 0001 is what you need. It works on all MB non-Pentosin power steering systems.
