I'm needing to retrofit from factory R-12 to the R134-A.
Does Peach parts sell the R-134-A ports & accumulator? how many ounces of refrigerant required in this system? I looked under hood and sticker so old no longer able to read thx, 4bnbad Will I feel a noticeable difference going to the newer less efficient R-134-A? I live where not uncommon for temps to reach 125 F in summer |

From everything I've read on this forum about the converting to R-134, you will not be happy with the performance at those temperatures. I still have R-12. Most on here will tell you not to convert it. Why do you HAVE to?

Best advised NOT to switch to R-134a. Keep your much more efficient R12 system. I have several converted cars and NONE of them are as good as an original system that was designed for R12 or R-134a. Keep & fix what you've got !!

Just curious - is the AC system on a TE different than the other E classes of that vintage? I know the 400E's (1992) used 134 from the factory.

Yes, that was the phase-in period whereby some cars used 134 and some still retained R12. I believe the V-8 cars (400E, 500E) began using R-134a from the 1992 model year onward, whereas this was phased in on the 6-cylinder models for the 1993 model year, with the changeover from the M103 to the M104 motor.

The V8 cars (400E, 500E) got r134-a in 1992. I believe the diesels did, too. The 300E (3.2) and 300 2.8 didn't get r134-a until 1993.

Hey Paul ... good to see you're still around. Been a long time, hope all's well.
Thanks for the confirmation. |

If you are okay losing about 30% cooling capability, a shortened compressor life, and more leak-prone then by all means go for it.
Being in AZ with you, take it from me...you'll be miserable in the summer. ESPECIALLY since R134a runs at higher pressures, you are taxing your cooling system as well. Its an across the board no brainer to stay with R-12 being in Arizona.
