pass side rear seat w124 wagon stuck in up position

and that means STUCK. I've now been trying for an hour pushing levers and pulling it, trying to wiggle the latching part with a screwdriver, even kicking it from the back, nothing will get it flat. is there any way to unlatch that thing somehow???? if I have to break it it's ok. I've never used the back seat of any car anyways and I don't want children as I'm enjoying life without them too much.
any input appreciated!

never mind. I put a crow bar between the seat and the car and just broke some stuff. there was no other option.
slightly disappointed with mb here.

If by that you're referring to the MB car, well, my seats (and many other TE owners) work just fine.

However, if that is a stab at this forum for not answering your question in the middle of the night within your 3 hour time limit, you did have options.

1. Just wait, the car still runs, and you said you never had it done before anyway.

2. USE THE SEARCH FEATURE, and you would have found this post just a few days old to help you:

Reclining W124 Wagon rear seat backrest forward??.

It's just that easy.

I think he meant MB in general, for making a mechanism that DOES get stuck from time to time for no apparent reason. Once in a while I DO have to resort to kicking from the rear... other times a good yank will do it. Unpredictable really... even with a good penetrating oil soak... it's a hit and miss. To be fair to MB, at least when the system does fail, the seatbacks are locked in place... not flopping around which could be fatal.

no complaints about the forum. not too happy with this mb. after replacing the head to a #22 because it cracked at the last exhaust valve, I now need a transmission (which probably still will shift like crap) and then on top of that I have to saw off the part caught in the latch of the car. so I can put the seat down. and of course I had found out how it should unlatch. that's not that hard as the other side works the same...

still now, with plenty of room to stick a chisel in there and hammer on it whilst pulling and pushing the securing pin it is still jammed shut.
very odd.

what's next? sls? that would be fun as a next thing to go out!

A rarely used 20+ year old mechanism that hasn't seen lube since it left Stuttgart and has in the mean time had who knows what spilled on it is now stuck... the horror!

Having been a Mercedes repair tech for 15 years, its an old story.... somebody buys a poorly maintained Benz and the previous owner(s) lack of maintenance catches up to it. Cue the tirade on how old Mercedes are junk. Following the natural order of things you should now spend several thousand dollars on it and then sell it because "its too expensive".

up to now I've made money on every mercedes I've owned... and I've had many. the wagon is my all tme favourite. too bad it runs such high rpm's.
the 250td I got in Belgium is better, with the 5 speed and no electric extras.

by the way, this issue doesn't have anything to do with lubrication. it's just jammed shut. even now, after lubricating it there is no way to unlatch it.
rather odd.

If you were closer I'd have my 9 year old help you with it.
