Benz Inline 6 vs Supra Inline 6

I noticed that Supras have inline 6's, could you use Supra parts on Mercedes 6's with minimal to zero modifications or would it just not work?? It would be nice to use there parts, as in my car would be much faster...

Thanks:D :D

Uh, I doubt it. Toyota and MB products are not at all the same. Different castings, materials, everything! Both cars have windscreens. Think they would interchange?

Chris17H 02-11-2002 04:51 PM

heh, i was just praying that they would cause there are so many options and they are much much cheaper...

Thanks for the reply:D :D

While the Japanese in the past have been known to copy American engines, their engines of the last 5-years are not replicas.

Is this thread for real?

It reminds me of something I read in one of my Dad's trade journals when I was about nine years old in the late fifties. A guy goes into the auto supply and asks for muffler, exhaust and tailpipes for a '53 Mercury. A few days later he comes back and starts explaining to the parts man that the tailpipe is too long, the exhaust pipe is too big, the muffler won't fit, etc. After the parts man asks many questions he finally asks the fellow, "do you have a '53 Mercury?" The guy says, "no, I have a '54 Buick." The parts man asks "why did you order parts for a '53 Mercury?" The customers response was "Because I like the sound of the '53 Mercury when my neighbor revs his engine."

Have a great day,

The simple answer is that most likely nothing will swap. A few relays might work but that would be all. They are completely different designs. I think the Toyota 6 is based on a Chevy, at least the one that was in the land cruzer is I think. Not only are the parts not going to work, I would recommend only using OE parts for the most part on the engine. Quality oil on changes also. The Mercedes is not a car that most folks are going to try to get more power out of, unless you have a lot of money. It takes a lot to improve the horse power on the Mercedes. I am talking on the order of thousands of dollars to make significant improvements. They are truly impressive to drive. Search the web and check out the prices on AMG stuff. $$$$$$

It's been said before, but the cheapest way to make a 300E faster is to sell it and buy a 400E.

Chris17H 02-12-2002 09:39 PM

Haha, i just got bashed....thats alright, truthfully im 17 and i love my Mercedes and i was just tryin to find a cheap easy way to make it quicker, and belive me if i had the money i would buy a 500E:D but i don't so i have to make due which what i have, which might i add is damn good...I could never go back to that Mercury Sable, that thing was a death trap goin over 70mph....Anyway thanks for your feedback:D :D

Hmm... apparently some guy already did this. check the performance paddock. I think it would be a great mod, especially if you can get your hands on a supra TT engine. But, you would be doing a complete engine swap, requiring a new tranny, engine, and prolly a new rear end. It would be very time consuming, and costly, but with the right mods, you could have the only 1000hp 300E in the world.... btw... im not sure if the supra tt engine was an inline... are you talking about the older engine?

Watch out! I don't know if you are aware of this, if you plan to put an old supra in-line 6 turbo motor in your 300E, make sure the head gaskets have been replaced with some modified one, nearly every older Supra Turbo motor (not the new Twinturbo one) blew its OEM head gaskets at the mileage of 70k-80k, that's why HKS is still selling so many metal based head gaskets to Supra owners. Strange enough though Supra owners tried hard to fight with Toyota, but there has never been a recall, maybe only some secret settlements with some aggressive individuals.

Well... they might not swap windscreens but Benzman500 has a Chevy fuel pump in his BMW. Must be that 17 year old ingenuity :)
