Blower not blowing as hard anymore...

What can I check if it seems like the blower motor isn't forcing the air as hard as it recently use to? 91 300E.

Thanks

You may want to try cleaning the evaporator.

Cleaning is a good suggestion - did you verify that the lower motor changes speeds appropriately? If not then check fan and voltage regulator - fair amount of info on these if you search.

if your car does not have the vent filters then you would need to remove the blower motor and clean out the evap coils, I believe toyota sells a spray for this purpose, you can also buy a commercial purpose spray that can go though the evaporator thickness.

It will clean it out.

He most likely does not have filters as they were only on the '94 -'95.

I did verify today that the motor is changing speeds when I select low or high fan. And the air flow also changes velocity. Maybe it does just need cleaned out then and is being restricted. It does seem that the air flow reduction has been gradual since I got it 3 years ago. Could the regulator be bad if it still is changing speeds?

I was amazed so much crap came out of mine. I guess after 20 years I shouldn't have been surprised. I'll probably clean mine again before summer. Every 5 years seems like a good schedule.

Hey - just got this in an email from the local Mercedes dealer. Anyone know the product they use?

I xxx'd out phone number info.
Paul

" Mercedes-Benz Genuine Air Conditioning
Cleaning for a Fresher Interior.

Dear Paul,

Your Mercedes-Benz has a highly efficient and reliable heating, ventilation and
air-conditioning system (HVAC). At times, however, certain unfavorable conditions (see "Did You Know?" below) can negatively affect your cooling system, decreasing the comfort and quality of your driving experience.

Good news! If the cool blast coming from the vents on a hot afternoon is not as refreshing as you would like it to be, Mercedes-Benz has a quick service procedure using a product specifically developed to thoroughly cleanse and revitalize the entire HVAC system.

Your Mercedes-Benz certified technician applies an odorless foam to effectively clean and disinfect every component, removing contaminants — with no trace of the product remaining in the system. HVAC cleaning is a fast and easy process that can usually be done while you wait or during regular vehicle maintenance.

Call (xxx) xxx-5690 for more information about HVAC cleaning and to schedule an appointment. We look forward to the next opportunity to provide the service experience you expect from Mercedes-Benz."

The car is old enough to be all clogged up.

I've got a 190E. Last summer I pulled it all apart to replace the heater core. While in there, I found the evaporator clogged with ground up leaves and glop from rain. Cleaned it all up, and it blew harder.

THEN, pulled the heater fan motor under the hood, and found the whole interior of the box was loaded with ground up leaves. Pulled the blower shroud, and found a water drain under the heater box that was solid goo from leaves, and water, etc. Cleaned it all out, and the heater system now smells nicer.

Amazing what a car can go through when you are the 4th owner.
