weird problem

hello i have a 93 mercedes 190e thats driving me nuts,in the morning first start in the driveway when i accelerate to about 3k rpm it boggs but it idle great. when i take off from the light it has good power but then it boggs then stalls also it has a funny smell from under the hood. it stalls while driving if i turn the key on/off 5 are 6 times it will start right up. so i check the fuel pump relay it looks good with no cracks are burn marks so i rule that out. i change the fuel filter and spark plugs also i had the catalytic converter check its good. so i was thinking it was fuel related because turning the key 5 to 6 times to get it back started. could it be the cps are mass air sensor are what else do i check for im lost on this one thank you for you help.

Car has no air mass meter, it has a flow meter which is pretty dependable, Does it start and run OK when warm? have you checked the OVP fuse, did the spark plugs have a large amount of deposits such as an oily deposit or a white/grey or yellow fluffy deposit? What plugs were in it and what did you put in it now?
PS describe the "funny" smell.
PPS if you are adept at checking the FPR, another thing to try would be to do a jumper wire at the FPR socket to hardwire the fuel pump to the battery, then see if the problem goes away. My first inclination would be that the engine needs valve stem seals, how many miles are on the car? OH and one basic question, is this a 2.3 or 2.6??
ONe last thing, since you are in souther Illinois, did you win the Megamillions last night and if so I demand 2 million dollars for my service so far :-)

If you have the 2.6 engine, it probably calls for Bosch COPPER plugs, NOT the platinum plugs that the Mcparts stores want to sell you. What plugs did you put in there? Look in your owners manual for the correct plug, I believe they should b H9DCO. However, spark plugs are not your problem.
Why are you turning the key 5-6 times? What happens when you try to start it normally after it stalls? By normally, I mean one key start lasting 10-15 seconds. Kinda sounds like a Crank position sensor has gone bad. Do you have a lot of oil leakage at the back of the engine?
